Dear Kathleen,
Your application to the Butler School of Music for entrance into the MM program
in Voice Performance is in process. This letter serves to confirm that
you have been passed through the prescreening round and your audition is
scheduled for 1/26/2013.
Please note, due to the high number of audition requests, it is not possible to
confirm your exact time until check-in on the morning of your audition. Therefore,
you should be prepared to be on campus most of the day, between 8am - 6pm. We
will do our best to make the experience as efficient as possible.
If you have a strong need for a specific audition time due to conflicts or travel
arrangements, please reply to this email and we will do our best to fulfill
your request. We must receive your WRITTEN request at least two weeks before
your audition. Audition days are always very busy and we are not always able to
fulfill requests for specific times. We urge students to block out the whole
day of their audition to give them time to explore the BSoM and the UT campus.
Please note, your file must also be complete with the Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC). They keep track of your application and fee, transcripts, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and test scores (GRE and TOEFL, if applicable). You can check your status with them online at http://utdirect.utexas.edu/nr/appstat.html.
It is recommended that you visit the
following webpage for hotels near the Thompson Conference Center, across the
street from the Butler School of Music: http://austin360.travelhero.com/index.cfm/aid/347/country/US/state/TX/city/AUSTIN/index.html.
MRH is the abbreviation for the Butler School of Music in Region 6 at http://www.utexas.edu/maps.
Directions to the Butler School of Music from Interstate 35 are: *Northbound on
Interstate 35 (be sure to take LOWER roadway): Take the Dean Keeton/LBJ Library
exit, move immediately to the far right lane on the access road, turn right at
the sign for Dean Keeton--the road will curve around and put you on westbound
Dean Keeton. At the second traffic light, turn left onto Robert Dedman
Drive. The Butler School of Music is the second building to your right,
just after the UT Law School, at the corner of the intersection.
*Southbound on Interstate 35 (be sure to
take LOWER roadway): Take the Dean Keeton/32nd St. exit, go through the light
at 32nd St., then exit to your right at the sign Dean Keeton so you will be
westbound on Dean Keeton. At the second signal, turn left onto Robert
Dedman Drive. The
Music Building is the second building to your right, just after the UT Law School,
which is at the corner of the intersection.
Parking on the street is sometimes a
problem, so plan on parking in the parking garage (from Dean Keeton, turn left
onto Robert Dedman Drive and drive to the first stop sign, turn right, take the
very next right onto Trinity and follow the slight hill up. The parking
garage is just past the Texas Memorial Museum, a large white marble building,
on the left. From the parking garage, the Butler School of Music is east,
directly across the street.
You should be at the Butler School of Music between 8am and 9am on the morning
of the audition to check in and receive your audition time. You can warm up and
practice in the practice rooms on the 5th and 6th floors of the building.
If you have further questions about the audition or the admission process, please contact me.
Best,
Daniel Seriff, Graduate Admissions
